Computer science animates our world, driving knowledge creation and innovation that touches every aspect of our lives, from communications devices to the latest medical technology. With significant strengths in the three core areas of computer science—computer systems, theory and artificial intelligence—our department fosters highly productive collaborations that have led to breakthroughs in cyber-physical systems, cybersecurity, machine learning and high-performance computing among other areas. We are applying these discoveries to address some of the most critical societal challenges of the 21st century, in fields such as healthcare, neuroscience and sustainability.

Rose Faghih Wins NSF CAREER Award for MINDWATCH Proposal

 

Adapting Smartwatches to Improve Distance Learning and Health Harish Krishnamoorthy, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering at UH, is creating a roadmap to boost the development of 5G networks.

There are big advantages to 5G networks. In addition to faster speeds, 5G offers greater bandwidth and network capacity, paving the way for a future of driverless cars, connected devices and more high-definition connections for virtual meetings and telemedicine. But the rollout in the United States and elsewhere has been stymied by gaps in available technology that could operate at the high frequencies required by 5G.

New $1M Hardware Project Would Boost 5G Networks The Cullen College of Engineering was recently ranked at No. 67 on the list of 2021 Best Graduate Schools By U.S. News & World Report.

On Tuesday, March 17, U.S. News & World Report released its updated 2021 rankings of best graduate engineering programs in the country. The UH Cullen College of Engineering has increased once again and is now rated No. 67.

The Engineering & Design Department, in the College of Science and Engineering, offers access to four Bachelor of Science degrees: Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Plastics & Composites Engineering, and Industrial Design. These programs place an emphasis on practical laboratory experiences, in addition to theoretical course work. Each program’s curriculum is designed with input from strong industrial advisory committees to prepare students for professional positions in industry. It is important to know that admissions and advising information is specific to each major and students are encouraged to become familiar with the requirements.

THE DEPARTMENT OF
ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY

Offers programs that are based on applications of technology to solve engineering problems. Technology is hardware, software and techniques. Our programs introduce experiential learning activities in virtually every course, and emphasize hands-on laboratory activities with fewer instances requiring the abstract manipulation of mathematics. ETEC graduates are in high demand and work side-by-side with other engineering graduates in a variety of technical fields.

Join ETEC at UNT and pursue an undergraduate ETAC/ABET-accredited degree in Construction Engineering Technology or Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a graduate M.S. degree in Engineering Technology. Here at UNT, engineering technology is the degree, but the career is engineering. These programs will help prepare you for the functional engineering tasks of design, re-design, technology implementation and evaluation, product and process improvement, and engineering system operation.
