Google Chromecast Review: A Streaming Device That Gets Better the More It Knows

Noble Horvath

All told, I was disappointed. Given how much Google knows about me, I was hoping it would do a better job at predicting what I would like to see. In the top row, labeled “Top picks for you,” Google recommended that I watch “The Wendy Williams Show,” a celebrity talk show, as well as “SportsCenter.” (For the record, both my wife and I don’t watch talk shows, and we’re not sports fans.)

It also recommended I check out “Wonder Park” and “Bigfoot Junior,” both children’s animated movies. (We don’t have children.)

A few of Google’s recommendations were spot on. “Snowpiercer,” a movie from my favorite Korean director, was a top pick. One row of recommendations was devoted to home improvement shows, which makes sense because I’ve been watching dozens of do-it-yourself repair videos to work on my house amid pandemic-induced boredom. Another row presented cooking videos from YouTubers I frequently

Bagotte BG800 robot vacuum review

Noble Horvath

Having a robot vacuum in your home is pretty damn cool. There’s something about the peace of mind that comes with owning one, knowing it can put in the time when we don’t necessarily want to. Even better, it’s great that they can get a head start on cleaning the house in the event of guest.

We’re a few generations into robot vacuum cleaners and the kinks have been largely ironed out. Indeed, they’re one of those things that often work better than expected.

We’ve seen and used our share of smart/robot vacuum cleaners over the last few years. Offered at different price points, there are various features one might look for or need when considering one.

As is the case with other gadgets you can usually apply the old adage of “you get what you pay for” with robot vacuums. But, much like we’ve seen in headphones, speakers, and

Microsoft Surface Duo review: double troubles

Noble Horvath

Microsoft’s Surface Duo aspires to be something different from any other gadget you’ve used. It could be mistaken for a phone or a small tablet, but it’s both less and more than those things.

When it’s closed, there are no screens or cameras. In shape and appearance, it’s like a small book, a digital version of the Field Notes notebook I carry around in my back pocket. When open, you get two screens side by side or one screen with the other folded back. And like a notebook, it feels somehow more natural to hold than a phone’s vertical slab shape. You hold it in your hand with the two sides angled toward you like a book.

In truth, there’s nothing the Surface Duo can do that you can’t do on your current smartphone or tablet. Your smartphone surely takes better photos, and your tablet doesn’t have a big gap

Crosley CR704D-PA Review ~ September 2020

Noble Horvath

Locating playback devices to fit the art deco style can be hard to find. You often run into something that’s close, but its modern features can stick out like sore thumbs. For the best record players turntables in this situation, we’ll be considering the Crosley because of its belt-drive turntable, good speakers, and overall value.

Crosley CR704D-PA Review

Why We Like It – Crosley CR704D-PA Review

A 1920s turntable built with modern amenities such as Bluetooth and CD, given great speakers, belt-drive 3-speed turntable, and high-quality audio quality to boot.

Pros

  • Belt driven 3-speed turntable
  • Good speakers
  • Comes packaged with Audacity

Cons

  • Missing RCA output
  • Lacks a USB port

Performance

The sound quality coming through the speakers sounds great, and gets a boost from having full range stereo speakers. It has to have great sounding speakers, given its lack of RCA output. Part of its magic is from the belt-drive turntable, which

Victrola VTA-600B-ESP Review ~ September 2020

Noble Horvath

The design of the Victrola VTA-600B-ESP takes classic Bluetooth record players, combines modern technology, and creates a hybrid playback device. And with 8 ways to play music, Victrola’s motto should be “Why not?” That alone makes it one of the best record players turntables, with great sound quality to boot.

Why We Like It – Victrola VTA-600B-ESP Review

Underneath its throwback design is a record player that includes a CD cassette player, USB player, AM/FM radio, RCA, 3.5mm aux-in, Bluetooth, and even a headphone jack.

Pros

  • 8-in-1 music center
  • 3-speed turntable records to PC
  • Ideal for music lovers

Cons

  • Design isn’t for everyone

Performance

Nothing beats the sound of vinyl, and we’re glad the Victrola VTA-600B-ESP has the speakers to back up its high quality sound. Of course, that wasn’t the only way of playing music. You can switch to Bluetooth, CDs, cassettes, AM/FM radio, Aux, and even headphones. This

Gadget Review: Ace gaming performance at an affordable price

Noble Horvath

The Asus TUF A15 comes in hard with its gaming style, latest AMD Ryzen processor, Nvidia graphics card and RGB keyboard lighting. It’s a deal that is hard to ignore, especially with that price tag. So, what are we missing out on?

The laptop is comfortable to use during long work sessions—it doesn’t heat up. This all changes when you start gaming. It gets very loud and, at the same time, starts throwing out a lot of hot air. I found the heat too much to comfortably use the laptop on my lap while gaming. The fans also get really loud, enough to make you want to turn your volume up while gaming.

The TUF A15 has a wide selection of ports, including 3 USB ports, a USB-C, HDMI, headphone/mic and an RJ45 port. There is no SD card slot or disc drive (not that you need one anymore).
